Yesterday, on my lunch break, I got into my car, only to jump out, screaming.
There was the most massive dragon fly, right behind my steering wheel.
My landlady’s husband had to assist me and remove it from my vehicle.
A defense mechanism of the Hairy Back Tarantula is “flicking hairs”. They rub their back legs on the top of their abdomen, shooting the tiny hairs at the enemy. If one comes into contact with your eye…blindness.
Upon leaving work yesterday afternoon, I heard a buzzing sound in my car. I pulled off the road quickly.
Much to the amusement of the Enforce Umhlanga Security, I leaped from my car, squealing. I went around my car, gingerly opening each door, until I found it. Back left passenger door, massive black beetle.
I screamed and ran back around the car; the 7 security guys came to investigate, and were practically howling with laughter.
Then, as I got home, sitting watching the sun go down, on my front step, I saw this and grabbed my camera:
This beautiful little green grasshopper was sitting on the plant. I would not feed this to Champignon, its too spectacular.
Summer is most definitely here!
